Children
Adopted Through Sellers:
"In March of 1954 I was born at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans.
In the spring of that same year, a young pastor and his wife from
Lake Charles, became my very proud parents through the ministry
of Sellers Maternity Home.
From the earliest recollections that I have, I always knew that
I was an adopted child...a chosen baby. Many times my parents read
a book given to them by Sellers Home entitled The Chosen
Baby. Through special times of family-building and the
strong Christian nurturing I was given, I never doubted the love
of parents and extended family. I came to know Jesus as my personal
Lord and Savior and have tried to serve Him with the gifts and abilities
he has given me.
As I look back over the years, I have been privileged to serve in
the capacity of youth minister in several churches. It would be
difficult to know the many times that I have had the great honor
to meet other adopted children in churches and communities in which
I have lived. Each one with their own special story of love. Many
of these adopted children have been a part of my youth ministry
and I have formed a special bond and understanding with them. I
have been able to guide several unwed young women, in the churches
I served, to choose adoption rather than abortion. That choice came
as a result of my knowledge and understanding of the great gift
they could give their unborn child.
About
six years ago, through some unusual circumstances, I was able
to contact and meet my birth mother. I learned the story of how
this woman found herself in the difficult situation of being unmarried
and pregnant. Then a good friend gave her guidance and hope through
a ministry called Sellers Maternity Home where she could give
her unborn child the gift and security of a loving home through
adoption. When I was able to meet her face-to-face, my first words
were to say “Thank you so very much for choosing to give
me life and an opportunity to grow up in a Christian home.”
I think for her, that statement, relieved many years of wondering
how the child that she gave birth to, would feel about her. I
believe that most adopted people would feel the same way.
I am
so grateful for the loving parents and wonderful family in which
God placed me. I am thankful for the friends, companions, teachers
and ministers that He has placed in my path on this journey of
life. And, I continue to pray for a ministry called Sellers Maternity
Ministries that provides a future and a hope for people like me.
From the time I was formed and until the time I will see the face
of Jesus, I am thankful that God allowed me to be an adopted person...a
chosen baby."

Adoptive Parents:
"Adopting from the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home was a
wonderful experience for us. We were truly blessed to have such
a caring and supportive staff helping us become first-time parents.
Our angel has blessed our lives so much. LBCH made our dreams
of becoming parents a beautiful experience we will never forget.
If given the opportunity, we would love to adopt another child
from them. Thanks LBCH for my beautiful angel." —
